Helsinki Attractions

Helsinki, the Finnish capital, is a truly rewarding destination. The city, besides being the administrative headquarters of Finland, is also its financial, cultural, educational, research and historical hub, and the major Helsinki attractions are related to culture and history, and a fair amount of nature. There are a good number of things to do in Helsinki; you can take a guided tour of the city via bus, and see such attractions as the Linnanmaki Amusement Park, Olympic Stadium and the Helsinki Zoo. Helsinki sightseeing should also include a boat tour along the coast here, and a visit to the nearby islands. Pihlajasaari is a popular island, for its sandy beaches, and the island Paloheinan Maki is famous for skiing at the hill in winter.   • The Senate Square –

The Senaatintori or the Senate Square is located at the heart of Helsinki. The Senate Square has a statue of the Emperor Alexander I I at the center.  The Senaatintori has a palace of Senate, as well as the chief structure part of the Helsinki University. The buildings were designed by the legendary architect, Carl L Engel. Visiting the Senate Square is one of the most fun things to do in Helsinki.

  • The Church of the Rock –

The Church of the Rock or the Tempeliaukion was constructed in a rock, and the design was done by two brothers in 1960.  The Tempeliaukion is one of the chief Helsinki attractions. The temple comes with a copper dome which has been constrcutued from a hole in granite which has close to hundred and eighty glass pieces, which help in ample natural light entering the church.

  • Helsinki Cathedral or Tuomiokirkko –

The Helsinki Cathedral is a magnificent specimen of architecture that is situated close to the Senate Square, or the Senaatintori and it was designed by Engel. The church has a capacity of close to a thousand and three hundred and the roof here sports the hugest zinc statues of the apostles in the world. The Helsinki Cathedral is a must visit sight during Helsinki Sightseeing.

  • Linnanmaki Amusement Park –

The Linnanmaki Amusement Park is located in the north of Helsinki, and has a whole lot of entertaining rides and attractions. There are close to thirty rides here.  Having fun at the park is a must do among things to do in Helsinki.
